Reclaim Your Brain for Success

I am always pleased to see how many people invest in themselves and their own learning. My resources are available at many of the speaking venues. Recently, out of a group of approximately 450, more than 60% took home my full package of books, DVD’s and CD’s. They made the choice to invest in themselves.

Here are some of my guiding principles when it comes to my own learning.

1.      Always have a book. Keep it with you so when you have down time you can fill these precious minutes with more than just reading The National Enquirer. Right now, I’m reading (for the second time) People are Idiots and I can prove it by Larry Winget.

Unexpected Kindness

Think about something you could do TODAY to lift another person’s spirit. My speaking schedule has been terrific but very hectic and as my husband picked me up from the airport last evening, he reminded me that he had made dinner reservations at a lovely little Italian restaurant for us. To me, that is unexpected kindness. So, we buzzed home and dumped my luggage.

Running in to my office and hooking up my computer to recharge the battery, I noticed a pile of mail.  To my surprise, Al had hidden a little box of yellow marshmallow Peeps – my favorite – under the wad of paper. Now to me – that is unexpected kindness.

Business Success through Social Networking

One of the tools that is critical in today’s hectic and competitive business landscape is social media and on line networking for business success. I’m working daily to figure out how to leverage everything we are doing whether it’s the blog, Twitter, FaceBook, YouTube or any of the other resources.  I must say that initially I was really a Toxic Person about even the thought of it all!

If you are not twittering - start today

If you are not twittering - start today

For my speaking business, I am taking personal responsibility by reading and finding the best people to help me with this.  Today I had a contact from YouTube asking for information on my speaking and consulting with their group. Is that cool or what?

Life Long Learning and YOU

I spoke to a wonderful group of about 300 people from the Food Services Industry yesterday. The topic was Is Your Networking Working? — and includes  face-to-face networking and Social (Internet) networking.  These were high level people and the room was filled.  Here’s what I know.  Successful people never stop learning.

One woman approached me prior to the meeting and said, “Now this isn’t going to be simple networking is it?”  I told her “no” but leave any time if it is not what you are looking for.  She was there the entire session. She took personal responsibility for her learning.

Whining and Complaining:

I am nuts today – I am soooo behind! Suffering from Book-done-itis. Leave tomorrow for the week and my sinuses are driving me nuts. Doc says it’s just allergies.  I’ll be good to go by tomorrow.

Don't do it

Don't do it

There it’s off my back.  Now I know that people don’t really give a hoot but sometimes we all  have to complain and whine to somebody!

Here’s what I’ve learned. Whine – then follow it up with something positive.  This is more for you than for the listener. Get over it and move on. Success is never found in people that are pessimistic.

Personal Responsibility for Success and Learning

I am so excited to report that my next book, The Reactor Factor: How to respond positively to negative business situations was sent to the Publisher, John Wiley, this week!  Whew – boy am I happy! The release of the book will be in October this year.  Look for updates later! The book is all about personal responsibility and ending entitlement.

Interestingly I’ve had several email’s in the last two days concerning couples growing apart. It must be getting close to a full moon.

My reply’s were very similar. If you think your partner is drifting away from how the relationship used to be, take action. It is your personal responsibility (and mine) to go the extra mile. Ask them for help. Take the approach that you are trying to be a better partner by being more caring, or whatever you choose, and need them to help you recognize and identify how you could be more caring.
